We’ve tried the “counting to 10” method and also “take deep breaths method” and have come to conclusion that for some of us, these tricks are of no use. If you are one of them, then you’ve come the right place. You want to learn how to control your temper at work, because it serves no purpose when you flare up at your colleagues one day and have no one to sit with during lunch! Here are some wise words that could help you calm down. We can’t promise anything but hey, it’s still worth a shot, right?
You might not even notice this but you may be angry because you are extremely stressed at work. So give yourself a little treat and have some ice-cream or some good chocolate. If you’re worried about the calories, snack on blueberries, avocado, oranges or green leafy vegetables and watch your sullen mood switch instantly.
At the heat of the moment, you may want to fight back, to lash out on whoever is the cause of all the anger you may be feeling. But at times like these it is important to tell yourself that this is not going to be forever. Remind yourself that quarreling will only aggravate the situation and land you in a deeper pool of mess.
Even when you wish death upon someone remember that it is possible to talk to someone and clarify things out by just being polite. Being reasonable is the only way to be.
Or even better, try and put yourself in the third person’s shoes. It could be that perhaps you are at fault too. Be neutral to the situation and remove yourself from the centre of it all. A wider perspective of things will give you a clearer picture of the situation.
There is no point in taking everything too personally. An office, by virtue of being an office is a quite an impersonal space. Don’t let your emotions and sentiments get the better of you. Whoever may have annoyed you may not have done it on purpose, they too have some shoes to fill and jobs to do.
Either some light stretching, a simple walk or some heavy duty exercise, whatever floats your boat. Exercise releases endorphins which are also known as the “feel-good hormones” and this is exactly what you need when you are angry. So if you’re pissed, just get out for a 5-minute walk.
Talking and venting it out to someone actually helps the nerves quite a lot. If you don’t have someone you can trust at the workplace, call your friends. If they are busy, call your folks. Your folks will never, ever ignore your calls and your need to vent. Thank God for parents.
This is the easiest thing you can do. Every office has access to internet connection. Make use of it. Watch short and funny video clips or watch adorable kitten gifs. Laughter is actually the best medicine, you know?
Life becomes easier if you just accept that life will sometimes be cruel and unfair and that there is nothing you can do about it. Don’t dwell on the negatives and move along with your day. The more you stay hung up on something, the more you are likely to be pissed off more.
